Aquaculture & Hatchery Water Treatment
Aquaculture treatment must improve water quality without exposing stock or biofilters to harmful oxidants. Ozone is therefore considered within a controlled side process, with safeguards before the water rejoins the culture system.
Discuss Your ApplicationThe Treatment Challenge
Feed residues, suspended matter and dissolved organics accumulate in recirculating systems. Fish, larvae and beneficial biofilter organisms can be sensitive to ozone and secondary oxidants, especially in saline or bromide-containing water.
How Ozone Helps
Ozonation may support colour reduction, oxidation of selected organics and microbial control in the treatment stream. These potential gains depend on water chemistry and must not come at the expense of animal health or biofilter function.
Process engineering
Technical Treatment Approach
Conditioned feed gas supplies the generator, which delivers ozone to a separate injection and contact stage. Mixing, water flow and residual-oxidant measurements guide treatment. Off-gas is destroyed, and validated oxidant removal precedes return to culture tanks.
Key Benefits
- Can support clarity management in recirculating water
- May reduce selected dissolved-organic loading
- Provides a controlled treatment step outside the culture tank
System Integration
Solids separation and biological filtration retain their own roles. Deozonation, degassing and appropriate monitoring are coordinated with the return line; ozone should not be introduced directly into occupied culture tanks.
Engineering & Automation
PLC options can interlock ozone production with sidestream flow and residual checks. HMI displays, ORP trends, dedicated oxidant measurements and alarms support supervision, with fail-safe shutdown and remote status options appropriate to stock protection.
Available depending on system configuration and project requirements.
Important Design Considerations
Species sensitivity, salinity, actual water quality, flow and organic load determine dose, contact time, transfer efficiency and treatment performance. Assess persistent secondary oxidants and verify removal against the hatchery’s treatment and animal-welfare goals.
